Art Appreciation Day at PINTO ART MUSEUM

Monday, October 5, 2015
I have a confession to make: museums are not my cup of tea. While others can construe an artwork as if it's their brainchild, I, on the other hand, would just see it as it is. Then I started seeing rave reviews about this museum in Antipolo which houses various contemporary art pieces, sculptures, and art installations from our local artists, the Pinto Art Museum.

Curious on what the hype is all about, I asked my boyfriend on an art appreciation date. Sleek, eh? Hehe. After a couple of cancelled trips due to bad weather, we finally got the chance to visit the much-hyped art space.

Pinto Art Museum sits in a 1.2 hectare property located inside Grand Heights, a private subdivision in Antipolo, Rizal. The owner, Dr. Joven Cuanang, is an art patron, neurologist, founding chairman of St. Luke's Medical Center Institute for Neurosciences, and owner of Boston Gallery in Cubao. Because of his staunch support for the arts, he unselfishly shared his private collection to the public. Artist/Gardener/Interior Designer Tony Leaño is the person behind the museum's architecture.

The museum houses 7 art galleries and the newly opened Indigenous Art Museum. It also has 2 cafés (Pinto Café and  Café Tanaw), a chapel, and Dr. Cuanang's weekend home.

"Pinto" is the Filipino word for door. Living up to its name, entering Pinto Art Museum is like stepping into a new world with hidden treasures to discover.

As soon as you enter the museum, you will see this chapel with statues of Jesus and various Saints inside.

The "Invisible Man" is made up of metal wires, resin, knitted thread, beads, plastic and can. Talk about resourcefulness.

My adorable date

The architecture of Pinto Art Museum is a fusion of Spanish and Mediterranean style.

My favorite painting of 'em all. So much feels.

The Museum of Indigenous Arts contains a potpourri of  artworks which show how our ancestors lived before colonization.

A closer look at the paintings from my favorite gallery

You can be at the museum the whole day and never run out of things to photograph.

We placed our foot outside the window despite the caretaker's leer and nod of disapproval. A couple of bad-ass, eh? ;)

He's trying to be artsy too. Haha.

Antediluvian four poster beds can be seen in the garden, too.

Trying to be wacky but ended up being "pabebe." Haha.

Surprisingly, contemporary and modern art appealed to us. We enjoyed interpreting the various paintings and racking our brains for the stories behind them. It's hot inside the galleries (the rooms are not air-conditioned) so better bring a fan and lotsa water. :)

We're pretty much in awe after 3 hours of roaming around. The museum is really a feast for the eyes. So if you're into contemporary arts, breathtaking landscapes, and instagram-worthy pictures, you need not go far. Visit Pinto Art Museum and expect to be blown away by this gem of an art space. As for me, more museums to come.
